Acupuncture in Fertility and IVF

Men and women are increasingly experiencing difficulties in getting children. Sometimes it depends on the woman, sometimes on the man and in some cases on both.
There are several reasons why women can experience infertility. It may be due to the natural process of aging, disease in the reproductive area or a cause unknown to mainstream medicine.
It is said that at the age of 40 the function of ovaries starts to diminish, making it more difficult for most women to get pregnant. As the estrogen and progesterone level drops, problems can occur with the implantation of the embryo. The fallopian tubes may be blocked due to infection or endometriosis, which results in the sperm not being able fertilize the egg. Also, myomas may have developed in the uterus, that may block the fallopian tubes. In addition, vaginal infection can also play a role in infertility due to excessive mucous deposits.
Infertility complaints in men have to do with the quantity or quality of the sperm or a combination thereof. The reduction in quantity or quality can be caused by infections, illness or external environmental factors. It is especially important for men to have the right diet so they are able to deliver high-quality sperm.

How can acupuncture help with infertility?

In acupuncture and Chinese medicine, there is a different view point from regular medicine as for the treatment for infertility. It is primarily the kidney energy that is important for a good functioning fertility. In addition, other organs, such as heart, liver and spleen can play an important part in not getting pregnant easily. The treatment plan is therefore tailor made for your specific situation.
At ChinaMedic we often apply abdominal acupuncture. The painless abdominal acupuncture is particularly effective in tackling not only the gynecological problem of infertility, but also the underlying disease such as endometriosis or PCOS. In women, the goal of treatment is to improve blood circulation in the pelvis, nourish kidney energy, and remove the local energy block or blood block. In men, in addition to stimulating kidney energy, the treatment is aimed at strengthening the spleen and often also the liver. As mentioned before, nutrition is an important point of attention for men.

How can acupuncture help with IVF?

With IVF support we often start two months or half a year before the start of the IVF schedule. In addition, acupuncture is regularly applied during the IVF procedure for acupuncture, adjusted to the IVF schedule. The acupuncturist will compile a treatment schedule with you. In both cases we also support you with nutritional advice and, if necessary, herbal therapy. The ChinaMedic Approach with abdominal acupuncture significantly increases the chance of pregnancy both by means of natural fertilization as IUI or IVF. With this treatment method, a large number of clients have successfully become mothers and fathers.

15 years of experience

We now have more than 15 years of clinical experience in treating infertility complaints in both women and men. Since the start of ChinaMedic it is one of the most common treatments that we apply. What makes our approach so successful is the integrated approach, the painless combination of abdominal acupuncture, LaserNeedle and herbal therapy. The application of abdominal acupuncture and the Chinamedic Approach are focused on:

  • improving the menstruation cycle (optimizing length, regulating blood loss, promoting regular ovulation, reducing PMS)
  • balancing the hormones
  • reducing stress
  • energy enhancement of all involved meridians and all gynecological organs
  • functional improvement of ovaries, follicles and the quality of the egg
  • improving blood circulation in the small pelvis, the ovaries and the uterus
  • increasing the chance for implantation when the embryo is (re)placed
  • improving the build-up and blood flow of the womb lining reducing the risk of miscarriage
  • improving the immune system

Frequently asked questions

What exactly can acupuncture help with?

Acupuncture has been used for thousands of years to remedy and improve a wide range of diseases and complaints. For an acupuncturist, the approach is simple: energy flows or it doesn't flow. The symptoms show where there may be a blockage in the body and this affects the rest of the body. In addition, the acupuncturist is about activating the self-healing capacity of the body. This makes acupuncture applicable to both sleep disorders and skin problems, allergies, addictions, depression, menopausal symptoms, burnout, rsi and so on. If you want to know how far acupuncture can help you, make an appointment for a 1st consultation and have yourself fully examined. The acupuncturist can then immediately tell you what we can do for you.

How many times do I have to come?

To give you a reliable and accurate estimate of the number of treatments you need, it is best to discuss this with your acupuncturist. If you have never been to an acupuncturist, you can make an appointment for a first consultation with possible treatment. The acupuncturist can then give you an estimate based on your complaints and the consultation.

Is acupuncture painful?

We use extra-thin needles for Abdominal Acupuncture. The punctures are hardly noticeable. People sometimes don't even feel where they are. Occasionally, someone may perceive a strange feeling, also described as nagging, numb, upset or painful. This feeling is often over.

The LaserNeedle that we often use in combination with puncturing needles is invasive and you don't feel it. The LaserNeedle is ideally suited for those who are afraid of needles and small children.

What does an acupuncture treatment cost?

A 1st consultation with subsequent treatment costs € 78.00. Each follow-up treatment costs € 62.50. ChinaMedic is affiliated with the NVA (Dutch Association of Acupuncture) and treatment is reimbursed by most insurers in the supplementary. It is advisable to contact your insurer what exactly this means for you. For a full price list of all our treatments CLICK HERE
